Wilma A. Goodridge was born on May 13, 1937 to Joseph and Eulalie Small in St. Andrew, Barbados, West Indies. She attended St. Saviour’s Girls School and the Alleyne School. She taught at St. Simon’s, St. Saviour’s and Chalky Mount schools.
Wilma married Victor Goodridge in 1958, and they had three children. Victor emigrated to New York in 1963. Wilma emigrated to Brooklyn, New York with daughters Beth and Joan where they joined Victor in 1966. Their son Hal was born in Brooklyn, NY. Wilma faithfully attended church at Union United Methodist Church in Brooklyn, New York where she taught Sunday School. She assisted with the plant and rummage sales. Wilma also greeted and introduced visitors to the church.
Wilma loved to cook, bake, and maintain a clean home. She had a warm sense of humor and loved to laugh. She loved being surrounded by family. Wilma is fondly remembered by former students.
Wilma worked at various jobs including Bankers Trust and Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. to help support the family. Wilma retired from Health and Hospitals/Elmhurst where she worked as a clerk in the Psychiatric Emergency Room. She was well liked and was even once honored as the Employee of the Month. During retirement Wilma would babysit her grandchildren in Delaware during the week and return home to New York on weekends. In later years she’d split her time between Florida and New York. Wilma was pre-deceased by Victor on April 13, 2013. She is survived by daughters Beth Davidson, Joan Stallings (and her husband Rickey Stallings); stepdaughter Emmeline Bannis; son Hal Goodridge (and his wife Wendi Goodridge); granddaughters Brenda Wilson (and her husband Curtis Wilson), Nicole Davidson, Natasha Davidson, Rebecca Goodridge; grandsons Isaac Middleton IV (and his wife Shari Middleton), Joshua Goodridge (and his wife Jessica Goodridge), and Nathaniel Goodridge; great-granddaughters Skylar Middleton and Gianna Davidson; great-grandsons Caleb Wilson, Nolan Middleton, and Jaden Goodridge; nephews Dr. Lennox H. Small, Jr., Benjamin M. Licorish; nieces Tamar Dyall, Esther Layne, Ruth-Ann Licorish; cousins, other relatives and friends.
Wilma is pre-deceased by her brothers Lennox H. Small, Sr. and Benjamin A. Licorish. She is the godmother of Felicia Larrier, great aunt of nine and the great-great aunt of one.
