Beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend.
Ruby Lewis Fisher
July 25, 1937 – September 20, 2025
Ruby, affectionately known as “Nana,” was the daughter of Issac and Millie Lewis. She was born on July 25, 1937, in Greenwood, South Carolina, and received her education through the Ware Shoals Schools, graduating with pride and determination.
Ruby was preceded in death by her parents Issac and Millie Lewis, her beloved husband Julius Roosevelt Fisher, her sister Mary McQueen, and her brothers Marvin Lewis and Joe Ake Lewis.
She later married the love of her life, Julius Roosevelt Fisher, until his passing in 1972. Ruby was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Ruby built her career as both a Child Care Provider and a Traveling Home Health Aide (HHA), callings that matched her nurturing spirit. For over 30 years, while residing in New York, she cared for children, families, and patients near and far, even traveling as far as Virginia to serve those in need. Her dedication and compassion left a lasting impact on countless lives.
She was known for her kind and giving spirit. She loved to cook, and she was especially gifted in the kitchen. If you ever had the chance to taste her food, you knew the love she poured into every dish. She carried a warm presence and had a way of making people feel at home. Ruby also found joy in music, dancing, driving, caring for others, and playing the numbers and the lottery, which reflected her vibrant, fun-loving, and hopeful personality.
Ruby joined Hollywood Baptist Church in 1959, where she remained a faithful member for decades. She sang on the Senior Choir and served faithfully on the Missionary Board. Ruby also dedicated herself to community service, being a proud and active member of the Elks Lodge for over 20 years. Through this, she served on various committees and gained lifelong friendships.
Later in life, she was blessed to find a deep and abiding love with William Leach, a companion who brought joy, laughter, and renewed warmth to her golden years. William was her steadfast support and a gentle light in her final chapter, and their love will remain a sweet part of her story.
On September 20, 2025, Ruby passed peacefully at her home in Saint Albans, New York, surrounded by love and family.
She leaves behind her loving daughter Pamela Jones (Rickey Jones), her grandson Tyreace Reid (April Reid), great-granddaughters Ayanna Reid and London Reid. She is survived by sister Mable Lewis and her brother James Lewis. She also leaves to cherish her memory her devoted companion William Leach, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family and friends.
The family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to all who have shown love, support, and kindness during this time of loss.
