Mary A. Wynn, born as Mary Alise Eikerenkoetter, on December 31, 1931, to Helen G.S. Randolph and Milton Eikerenkoetter in Philadelphia, PA. Educated in the segregated schools of Virginia, she graduated at the top of her class from the King William Training School for Colored Youth and attended Hampton Institute where she earned a Bachelors' Degree in Elementary Education in 1954. After teaching in Baltimore City Public Schools and while teaching for the Board of Education for the City of New York, she later earned a Master of Early Childhood Education from New York University in 1971.
Mary married Leon Dover Wynn in Baltimore, Maryland on February 7, 1954. From this union came four children: Maurice R. Wynn, Bonaro Wynn, Karla M. Wynn, and Roxanne K. Wynn. She was baptised as a child at Union Hope Baptist Church, King William, VA; became a member of Greater Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, Brooklyn, NY. She later accepted the Teachings of Baha'u'llah and joined the Baha'i Faith and its Community on October 1, 1976 in New York City.
Mary and Leon Wynn were married for over 71 years. Mary winged her flight and passed on to the Abha Kingdom or Kingdom of Heaven at 1:56 PM on Thursday, July 31, 2025 in Brooklyn, NY.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her four children, two granddaughters, a son-in-law, a host of relatives, students colleagues, community members and friends.
