Franklyn Cyrus

Franklyn Garnett Cyrus, known to most as “Sharke” and affectionately called “Cyrus”, was born on June 20, 1932, in St Peter, Barbados to the late Glendora and Frank Williams. He had two siblings, the late Joseph Cyrus and his dear sister Claudine who still resides in Barbados.  Franklyn was educated at St. Peter Boy’s School in Barbados.  As a young man, he played cricket for Bristol Cricket Club and migrated to the United States where he picked tobacco. In the early 60’s he met the late Justine Weiters and her daughter Sonia. Franklyn and Justine were united in holy matrimony. Their union was blessed with three children, Francina Cyrus-Walker, the late Franklyn aka “Frankie” and Michael Cyrus.

Cyrus was employed at Kings County Hospital as a cook for 30 years until his retirement. Later, he married again to the late Gloria Lowe.

Sharke enjoyed playing cards, he loved spending quality time with his family, talking “guy talk” with his grandsons and spoiling his granddaughter. He loved to watch baseball… the Yankees were his favorite team, he also enjoyed tossing the ball around with his great-grandchildren. Franklyn enjoyed life to the fullest!

On October 5, 2023, Franklyn peacefully departed this earthly life while at home surrounded by his family. He reunited with his son Frankie and grandson Moriah who preceded him in death. He now leaves to celebrate his life and legacy, his daughter Francina, son-in-law Maurice, his daughter Sonia, and his son Michael; one sister Claudine; his remaining grandchildren: Lemuel, Yoshua, Yoel, and Aaliyah; his great-grandchildren: Ava and Ameer Walker; his nieces: Margaret Riviera, Gwendolyn Small, and Janice Brathwaite; his nephew Aidian Cyrus; great-nieces and nephews: Clementine, Rodney, Tonia, Dale, and Latoya, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Let it be known that Franklyn Garnett Cyrus was loved, cherished, and respected. He will be missed by his family and friends, whose lives he touched.

Rest peacefully Cyrus. You are loved beyond words, and you lived a long and enjoyable life.
